ออกเวอร์ชันใหม่ให้อัพเดทกันอีกแล้วสำหรับ Avast! Free Antivirus โปรแกรมแอนตี้ไวรัสพร้อมแอนตี้สปายแวร์สำหรับระบบปฏิบัติการวินโดวส์ซึ่ง อนุญาตให้ใช้งานได้ฟรีในการใช้งานแบบ ส่วนตัวแต่ต้องลงทะเบียนหลังใช้งานครบ 60 วัน เพื่อต่ออายุการใช้งาน (ลงทะเบียนฟรี) โดยล่าสุดได้ออก Avast! Free Antivirus 5.1.864 ซึ่งในเวอร์ชันใหม่ล่าสุดนี้ได้เพิ่มฟังก์ชัน Boot-time scanner บน Windows 64-bit และปรับปรุงการทำงานของฟังก์ชัน Behavior Shield ให้มีประสิทธิภาพมากยิ่งขึ้น นอกจากนี้ยังปรับปรุงการทำงานของ antirootkit engine และ cleaning module รวมทำการแก้ปัญหาต่างๆ ที่พบในเวอร์ชันก่อนหน้า

Avast! Free Antivirus เป็นโปรแกรมแอนตี้ไวรัสที่มี Antivirus Kernel ที่มีประสิทธิภาพสูงสามารถสแกนไวรัสในขณะทำการบูทเครื่องคอมพิงเตอร์ (Boot-time) ได้ และมีประสิทธิภาพในการป้องกันแบบฝังตัว (Resident Protection) สูง ทำงานได้ดีทั้งแบบ On-demand และ/หรือ Resident virus scanner นอกจากนี้ยังรองรับการเปลี่ยนหน้ากาก (Skinable) ได้ตามความต้องการอีกด้วย

Avast! Free Antivirus นั้นนอกจากสามารถในการป้องกันมัลแวร์ประเภทต่างๆ ที่แพร่ระบาดในปัจจุบัน ตัวอย่างเช่น Virus, Spyware, Trojan เป็นต้น แล้วยังสามารถป้องกัน Rootkit รวมถึงป้องกันการโจมตีด้วยสคริปต์ (Script) ได้อีกด้วย
