Avast! Free Antivirus โปรแกรมแอนตี้ไวรัสพร้อมแอนตี้สปายแวร์สำหรับระบบปฏิบัติการวินโดวส์ได้ออก อัพเดทเวอร์ชันใหม่เป็น Avast! Free Antivirus 6.0.1091 เมื่อวันที่ 19 เมษายน 2554 โดยในเวอร์ชันนี้มีวัตถุประสงค์เพื่อเพิ่มส่วนขยาย (Extension) WebRep สำหรับโปรแกรมเว็บเบราเซอร์ Chrome รวมถึงแก้ไขปัญหาและปรับปรุงการทำงานที่พบในเวอร์ชันก่อนหน้า

Avast! Free Antivirus เป็นโปรแกรมแอนตี้ไวรัสที่อนุญาตให้ใช้งานแบบส่วนตัวได้ฟรี แต่ต้องลงทะเบียนหลังใช้งานครบ 60 วัน เพื่อต่ออายุการใช้งาน (ลงทะเบียนฟรี) จุดเด่นของ Avast! Free Antivirus คือมี Antivirus Kernel ประสิทธิภาพสูงสามารถสแกนไวรัสในขณะทำการบูทเครื่องคอมพิงเตอร์ (Boot-time) ได้ และมีประสิทธิภาพในการป้องกันแบบฝังตัว (Resident Protection) สูง ทำงานได้ดีทั้งแบบ On-demand และ/หรือ Resident virus scanner นอกจากนี้ยังรองรับการเปลี่ยนหน้ากาก (Skinable) ได้ตามความต้องการอีกด้วย และนอกจากสามารถในการป้องกันมัลแวร์ประเภทต่างๆ ที่แพร่ระบาดในปัจจุบัน ตัวอย่างเช่น Virus, Spyware, Trojan เป็นต้น แล้วยังสามารถป้องกัน Rootkit รวมถึงป้องกันการโจมตีด้วยสคริปต์ (Script) ได้อีกด้วย
